Before this year, I was never a huge fan of country music, but living in the middle of the corn fields can definitely change a person. So when I was offered the opportunity to open up for Adam Craig Band at this year’s Fall Country Concert, hosted by Washington College, I was incredibly excited. Adam Craig is an up and coming country artist who not only tours to perform his own music, but has also written for artists like Parmalee and Jason Aldean.
Even though it was early October, Friday night was incredibly cold and the skies looked like they were about to open at any second. I spent my sound check huddled in the thickest sweatpants and sweatshirt I could find (although I left my camo heels on, because that totally makes sense). There was an entire stage set up inside the college as well, just in case the storm hit us. Luckily for me – and not so lucky for Adam Craig – the weather held off until the end of my set.
This show was particularly exciting for me because I played with a six piece band, which was definitely a new experience for me and for my audience. I thought it brought a whole new complexity to my music and everyone seemed to really enjoy the addition of a horns section. Especially me, because I mean, come on, how can you NOT love the trumpet?
The Adam Craig Band ended up moving inside with the onset of rain, but everyone had a ton of fun despite the weather. The band played acoustic, stripped versions of their songs which was really cool to see. And all I had to do was listen and drink apple cider. It really doesn’t get better than that.
Peace and love,
